Have you been to The West End or Vancouver’s west side recently? If not, this weekend might be your last chance to see the gorgeous cherry blossoms.
Finally, we can say good-bye to winter! Although the spring is just stepping in, it is a good time to preview some “Can’t Miss” summer activities.
Celebration of Light: July 30 – August 6, 2011
Into its 21st year, the Celebration of Light continuous to provided spectacular entertainment for Vancouverians to highlight their summer season.
This year, the event organizer invited past champions back for a true battle. China, Spain and Canada, all had their moment in the past, but who will stand again this year? There is one thing for sure; we will definitely have a breathtaking show to watch.
Vancouver International Fringe Festival: September 8 – 18, 2011
The festival was voted Vancouver’s Best Arts Festival by Georgia Straight readers over the last five years. The Fringe Festival is becoming a traditional gathering for art lovers, theatergoers and volunteers in BC and around the world.
By focusing on their mission “Theatre for Everyone!”, performances are chosen by a non-juried lottery, allowing for a wide variety of performances to be presented to the public. This year the schedule will feature more than 600 performances by more than 80 groups. Another part of the event design that makes the festival “fringe” and “unique” is venues. Beside traditional “main stage” venues like Performance Works, Waterfront Theatre in Granville Island, artists also are being encouraged to “Bring Their Own Venue”. Shows can plays under a tree, along a street or even inside a bus!
Where is your “must go” this summer?
