Another year has come and gone and everyone wants to know, “What are you doing for your birthday?” I think every birthday should be as unique as the person celebrating, so here is a compilation of some of my favourite ideas.
Adrenaline Junkies
For people who live for accelerated heart rates and have no fear, birthdays are a chance for adventure. Grouse Mountain offers three Adrenaline Adventures: Mountain Ziplines, Tandem Paragliding, and Helicopter Tours. If you’re thinking of heading up to Whistler, talk to Canadian Outback Adventures & Events about Ziptrek Ecotours, Bungee Jumping, or White Water Rafting. For the ultimate rush, check out Vancouver Skydive in Abbotsford to test your nerve at 12,500 feet in the air. I’ve personally done this and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life!
Go Glam
If you’re looking for a sophisticated celebration, consider spending the day at the spa or shopping along Robson Street with your best girl friends to prepare for a night out on the town. Reserve a table at your favourite restaurant, arrange for VIP service at a local club and make sure everyone gets home safe by hiring a limo for the night. Make sure to check your city’s tourism website for special deals happening around town, including affordable hotel rates which will increase the glam factor exponentially.
Flashback
A blast from the past can be the best cure for feeling older. Some of my best birthdays are those that happened before I hit my teenage years. Spend the day at an amusement park, go play mini golf, race go-karts, test your laser tag prowess, or even invade a Chuck E. Cheese’s for old time’s sake.
Whatever you decide, make sure it’s what YOU want to do. Birthdays are the one day you can claim as your own so you might as well make each of them count!
