Planning Tips - Where to Begin - Part 2

From your guest list is the venue selection. What kind of venue do you see yourself getting married in? Do you see yourself on the 18th hole overlooking that stunning water hazard? Do you see yourself in that swanky urban hotel ballroom? Or do you see yourself in the rustic hall in your favourite park? Each venue provides a completely different atmosphere and your choice will really depend on whether or not you are looking for an intimate, traditional or laid back wedding. When you’re choosing your venue, you will also need to find out if they do all the food and beverage services or if you will have to hire an outside caterer. Two thirds of your budget should be allotted to food & beverage services and your venue.

Once you have chosen your venue, things really start to fall into place, vendor selection comes next. You venue might do a lot of things for you such as set-up of all your tables & chairs. Some venues even offer linens, centerpieces and flowers, where others provide nothing at all. The vendors you may need are: wedding coordinator (The Finer Details can create a wedding coordination package that will fit into almost any budget!), photographer, florist, decorator, rentals, officiant, etc. A wedding coordinator can provide you with a great list of vendors to choose from and help you pre-screen who to choose; as we all know that Google searches can be a little overwhelming. If you are doing your vendor selections yourself, see our blog post on vendor selection tips. The best tip for vendor selection is to ensure you choose vendors based on your own choices; you don’t have to choose someone because someone else did!

After you hire your vendors, it’s time for the smaller items such as invitations, attire, and the little details. There are some great websites out there that can help you find what you’re looking for. Places such as The Knot, Bride.ca and countless blog sites can help you come up with lots of unique and interesting ideas to add your personal flair to your wedding day. Use the internet as your tool to come up with all kinds of fun and creative ideas. The internet is also a great place to look for your wedding dress. Think about your venue and theme when choosing your dress. You want to be sure you’re not wearing a colossal ball gown for your backyard wedding or that extremely sexy sheath dress for your traditional church wedding.

The most important thing to remember as you plan your special day is to HAVE FUN!! This is supposed to be a fun and exciting time. Let things happen as they will and your day will be spectacular. Happy planning!
