Planning Tips - Where to Begin - Part 1

Congratulations! He proposed and you said yes! Now where do you begin? The whole process can be so overwhelming.

The best place to start is to figure out your budget. What do you have to spend? Is this coming from you and your fiancé? Your parents? His parents? Do you have back-up money just in case you go over? These are all important questions you need to ask before you start planning and before you start putting down deposits.

Once you have figured out what you have to spend on your wedding, you need you figure out your top three must have’s. What three items are the most important to you? These are the things that when you’re allotting your budget to certain areas, you will be more willing to spend a higher price on in order to make them memorable. For some couples it’s the party & alcohol, for other’s it’s the intimacy and family traditions. These three items could include: Your venue, food, cake, decor, theme, flowers, family traditions, entertainment, uniqueness, personalization, etc. Once you figure out what items are key for you and your fiancé (and the other parties involved in planning), creating your vision and allotting your budget will be much easier.

Next, create your guest list. Get a list from your parents, your fiancé parents, and make a list for yourself. This will help you create your A list, and your B List. You need to know your approximate guest count before you choose your venue, as you need to make sure you’re not over the capacity of the room. By creating a B list, it will help you keep your guest list under control, as some of the A list no’s come in, you can bring in the other people that you wanted there but couldn’t accommodate or afford earlier.

From your guest list is the venue selection. Check back next week to read the rest in - Where to Begin Part 2!
